A few photographs showing the work required/done on 1775s upper deck upgrade:

Seats removed.
The areas where the floorcovering is to be replaced are the curved pieces at the edges of the floor.

Removal of the cushion is not a problem as it simply lifts out. The seat back is a bit more complicated
as the chrome top rail grips the top of the seat back. Five screws in the base and one either side at
the rear have to be removed, then the chrome top rail has to be removed by drilling out four rivets
on either side and knocking the top rail upwards about four inches to slide it out of the seat frame.

Whilst removing the last of the lower deck seats yesterday, there was a further interesting find:

Another pre-decimal coin. This time, a 1953 two Shilling piece.
('Two bob' to those of us old enough to remember them), 10p decimal.

The first of the seat backs and cushions go away tomorrow for re-padding and the
metal seat frames and legs are being prepared for dipping and powder coating.
First, a short report on progress with the interior revamp. The first seat cushion bases have gone away for re-padding and all the seat frames and legs are ready to send off for dipping and powder coating. The steel cove panels upstairs are being treated with Jenelite for rust proofing and given a coat of primer. In the new year the treated area will be given a new covering of lino.

On a related subject there is a nice picture of 1775 in the calendar which has just arrived with January Buses magazine. In the caption it mentions that Ribble was the second largest customer for the PD3 with 236 (although if you add those acquired with Scout you reach 241). So, who bought the most? Was it Southdown?

285 to beat for Southdown, if memory serves!

The planned work on 1775s floors and seats is nearing completion.
The refurbished seat frames have been re-assembled and put back in on the newly painted floor.
All but 4 of the seat cushions, (which have been re-padded), have been returned and
installed. Hopefully the four outstanding cushions will be returned within the next week or so.

In the absence of Geoff, I am happy to report that 1775 passed its latest MOT Test today and will be available for service at the Morecambe Running Day.
