Can anyone tell me how many Ribble depots that were in use in,say, 1957 are still in use as bus depots. I'm referring to the actual buildings - if the location is the same but a new building has been put up I discount it.
From those listed in the 1958 ABC Ribble as a start date.
Here are a few to start -
Bolton - Goodwin Street - Blue Bus / Arriva
Chorley - Stagecoach Ribble
Station Road, Kendal - Stagecoach North West
Preston - Stagecoach Ribble
Skipton - Pennine Motor Sevices
Bootle - Arriva Merseyside have a depot on Hawthorn Road, but is it on the same site as the Ribble Depot ? If not it is not very far away.
Can't help with the Blazefield ones other than Clitheroe was demolised.

Hi Ian
The Liverline depot you refered to was the original RIBBLE depot ,were I started as an apprentice Bodybuilder in 1949 , the present ARRIVA depot was second one , opened in 1977 .
Sam.
The original Ribble Depot is, I believe, still in use by Arriva. The doors are rarely open when I pass, but I have seen vehicles in there that I suspect are either stored or in use as driver training buses. It's possible that some use is made of the pits, but it's a dark and murky place! I remember being on defective vehicles on a couple of occasions on the L2, which passed the depot and being surprised when the driver took the bus inside the depot in order to effect a changeover.
When Ribble moved out in 1977 I recall that they had exchanged plots with an engineering company, possibly engaged in working with lead. Years later, after that company vacated the depot building, Liverline returned it to its original use. There is also an open yard immediately to the right of the depot building that usually holds several buses, some being in the white training livery.

Hi all
I'm no expert on things scouse, but I believe one of the depots used to be owned by Tate and Lyle and used for looking after their big posh trucks.
hello all all i know there was lovelane i think if so its now a housing estate the old liverline depo they had 2 depos 1 was just by scotland road the 2nd was just off vauxhall road now on hornthonw road were the driving school is is all so body and paint shop and all so at night a bus park up the old ribble depo were my uncle worked some out the my remember him his name was stanley hodge or standby stan sadly no longer with us passed away many years ago i hope this info is some help thanks mark
Further to my posting of the 23rd, I now believe that the original Ribble depot on Hawthorne Road, Bootle, in later years used by Liverline, houses a bodyshop/paintshop facility. This caters for the Arriva Merseyside fleet and also carries out work for other Arriva subsidiaries. Driver training and stored vehicles can also be found here.

hi
yes the original depot is still in use as you see buses going into it each evening, sometimes blocking the road.
i remember going into there many times as a youngster as my late dad (John Hindle)was a conductor until the omo came in and he tranfered to a job in the money office in the newer depot further down the road .he retired after 39yrs service in the 90s.

Blackburn George Street is still used by Transdev Lancashire United who refer to it as Manner Sutton Street. The depot boundaries were at some point extended so that George Street itself is completely within the depot boundary, hence the renaming.
