20 years ago, when Top Gear was a very different programme, they featured the 1989 REC Southport-Blackpool Rally. Someone has now made that edition available on the web. If your computer will take streaming video, 15 minutes into the programme is a 4 1/2 minute segment well worth a look.

Thanks for identifying this clip. Is 452 really "the only surviving Tiger Cub in the world"? I don't think so! Which one of our members told this porky to the presenter?

Ray,is it not 412 on the clip. 452 was still in bits in 1989 (and we didn't put rivets through the badge)

You're right. I realised after I'd put the entry on the site and I planned to correct it this morning. We didn't get 452 on the road until May 97 as I recall; our entry in 1989 was 2700 / 209 which was featured briefly. One thing that surprised me about the commentary was its accuracy, unusual in a TV programme - apart from the Tiger Cub reference of course.

The 1989 rally was the first I attended with the group and this was a few years before we got our hands on 2700 / 209, the entry that year being 1686. The Tiger Cub would probably have been 412 as 452 at that time was based at Crewe.
