The dismantling of 1793 is now gathering pace with parts recovery well advanced prior to final scrapping. The considerable decay to the bodywork is now plain to see, partly a legacy of many years spent outside and partly due to the characteristics of the Orion bodywork, although, of course, it was never designed to last the 49 years since it was constructed.

1793s cab area was removed to make engine removal easier.

Sad Most of the parts required have now been removed from 1793.
The remains are to go for scrapping within the next few days. The journey to the
scrapyard will be on a low-loader and to meet height restrictions, 1793 has had to
lose a bit of .................. height.

First to go were the front and rear domes.

Next was the middle bit !

The scrap man has been asked to return the axles and the wheel dishes.
Hope the domes were kept........
Some pics taken today (24th May) of the mortal remains of 1793, on the back of the lowloader. It was taken away about an hour later...Sad

Steve Nelson e-mailed me this photo of 1793 this evening:

It shows 1793 on the back of the low loader (a very interesting stretchable one).
The two people on the left are Steve's brother, Chris, and Peter Walton.
Peter kindly oversaw the removal/disposal of 1793s remains on behalf of RVPT.
To whom did the remains get disposed of? Thanks.

1793s axles and wheels have been returned to Freckleton.
They will be dismantled over the next few weeks. Unwanted 'bits' will go for scrap.
